Google search function just got "verbatim", the search giant confirmed in an official blog post. With verbatim, Google will return 'literal' search results to the queries entered by the users. Now, how different will the "verbatim" search results be than the ones we've been getting? For starters, Google will completely do away with auto correcting the spellings users type, it will also stop personalizing the searches it returns with, by way of listing down the most visited sites by the user. Synonyms, too, will not be a part of the search results by Google, neither will it come up with 'terms' similar to those users enter. Also, alternatives like 'running' for the word 'run' will not feature in the searches. In short, Google is looking at making search results more literal than it used to be, in an attempt to bring relevant search results Gets Verbatim..
Google states that earlier it would auto-correct the spellings of the searches users typed, if the original query didn't yield sufficient searches. Even recently, it came up with the idea of introducing the '+' operator to its searches, so that users could specify what they were particularly looking for, which it then replaced because users weren't using it the way Google thought they would, with double quotes.
Users can find the verbatim option under the 'More search tools' option on the left-hand side. |
