Grooveshark Supports Emerging Artists

Newer, independent bands have another source of support. Grooveshark, the online music streaming service launched a channel, Breakthrough Radio, which will support emerging musicians. The service has tied up with a music creation/collaboration platform, Indaba to facilitate this. Musicians have to submit their music via Indaba to be featured on Breakthrough Radio. Indaba allows any band with capital to join and upload their music. It has 60,000 registered users and Grooveshark gets 30 million unique visitors each month. They’re tapping into the indie market to expand their offering.

This is a good new service for musicians, because while other services like Pandora still allow indie musicians and bands to submit their music for streaming, they usually have to go through distributors. The fact that Grooveshark is teaming up with Indaba will make the process more straightforward for independent musicians. Furthermore, Grooveshark’s been running into trouble with record labels for copyrights (which is also why its application has been pulled from the iOS App Store and the Android Market). However, setting a new focus on the indie scene might help it get back in the good books of the application distributors.
