Grooveshark Writes Angry Open Letter to Music Industry

Grooveshark, the music streaming service is currently pretty ticked off. Its iOS application was pulled from the App Store, last August and its Android app was pulled from the Market earlier this month. It has now written an angry letter to the music industry, copying Apple and Android on it, saying there's nothing illegal about their app. No more mobile groove, makes an angry shark
Grooveshark does work differently from regular music streaming services. Instead of solely relying on record company licenses, Grooveshark also allows users to upload their own music files to the catalog which can be streamed by other users. This kind of service has been labeled as peer to peer which is why Grooveshark is in hot water. Grooveshark, however, maintains that they're compliant with Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and processes takedowns as they are filed. They also focus on getting digital rights from not just individuals but record companies as well.
Grooveshark's maintained that they do want to defend their name. For Android users, the Grooveshark application is still available for download from their website but iOS users are out of luck. |
