It was International Data Privacy Day on Friday and IBM wrote in to us telling us data privacy is certainly on their to-do list. They wrote about their efforts for making your data entirely yours. They said that they're part of a research initiative that will pilot cryptographic technologies that enable citizens to better protect their privacy and identities. The project is called ABC4 Trust and uses privacy-enabling technology from IBM and Microsoft. The initiative uses "identity mixer" technology which was pioneered at their Zurich research laboratory.

IBM's locking in for greater data privacy

In addition, IBM engineer, Jeff Jonas keynoted at a conference on Privacy by Design in Toronto, where he discussed a new approach to privacy-enabled analytics. His keynote included research collected from years of collaboration between clients and privacy experts. Furthermore, IBM's helping the Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Commerce with their approach towards data privacy. Their assistance includes support for stronger enforcement of industry-set norms and support for US compliance with international privacy norms.
