Lady Gaga's Popularity Leaves Amazon Red-Faced

24 May, 2011, 3:31 pm IST | by Anuradha Shetty | Web services

The popular idiom – Biting off more than you can chew seems to be an apt description for the latest developments on the Amazon front. When Lady Gaga decided to release her album, Born this way; the online retailer decided to go in a big way in marketing for the album, as well as further its own cloud drive service that’s in its infancy stages.

Amazon offered a one day sale for the MP3 version of Lady Gaga’s latest album. Amazon announced that the MP3 version of the same would be available on its site for 99 cents. As expected, scores of Lady Gaga fans thronged the website, and as a result the Amazon’s cloud drive server which couldn’t take the huge load that kept pouring in; stalled. This meant that excited and expectant fans were unable to download and/or listen to the complete songs. Irate users then used the comment box below as their space to vent out their frustration.

A hapless Amazon, at around 1:15pm Eastern Time posted a message on Twitter which read like – “We’re currently experiencing very high volume. If you order today, you will get the full @ladygaga album for $.99. Thanks for your patience.”
