Now, Mozilla has got into the competition of offering app stores. Going a step ahead of Google and Apple , Mozilla is in plans of offering its users an open alternative to Chrome and Apple’s app store.
An app store, now, on your mobile
Mozilla's Labs has sent out a first developer release of its Web Application project. The goal is to serve up web-based apps for any device and any browser. The first build comes with a spec to describe a set of new applications. Also, a set of new browser API’s that includes the ability of a website to launch itself in a browser. The coming weeks, however, will see more browser and device friendly moves by Mozilla. Some developments one can look out for are a deeply integrated ‘in browser’ experience which would help the user synchronize web apps to their mobile device. Mozilla’s latest move would shackle up notions of apps being only served from walled shops. The open source state a Web App store would embody "widely implemented open standards in modern browsers - to avoid interoperability, portability and lock-in issues." Users would now, with Mozilla’s latest offering, be able launch a Web Application with a single click or share their contacts with Web Applications using any device or browser. |
