Early this year, we had reported about the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approving the usage of the suffix - .xxx for pornographic websites, in a bid to give the adult entertainment industry an identity solely of its own. Now, a PCMag report confirms that the public registrations for the .XXX domain will begin for the public at 11am Eastern time today. The registrations can be done through a host of registrars - GoDaddy.com, Network Solutions, name.com, among others. Domain registrations, reportedly are being done on first come, first serve basis. Also, different registrars have different rates for registering a particular domain name for you - registering a domain name with GoDaddy.com will cost $99.99 for the first year, while registering with Network Solutions will cost $129.99. The report further quotes, Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry who cited the need to have a separate domain name for the adult entertainment industry, he stated, "While adult entertainment is enjoyable to many adults, it is not appropriate for all audiences. We created .XXX to address the unique needs of the online adult entertainment industry." Interestingly, those choosing to go with the .XXX domain will benefit with the McAfee malware scanning, making it the only domain to have it. Further, to steer clear of adult-themed sites and adjust browser settings, those with .XXX domain will receive MetaCert electronic Family Safety label.
