The tech world has been rife with news about a well-planned, successful cyber attack that disrupted the security connections of over a 28,000 sites, at the first count. These figures have been recorded by Websense, a security firm studying the attack very closely. A quick measure of shutting down the infected software was taken by the security firm. Several users who accidentally logged in to these infected websites were told that their systems were attacked by not one, but, multiple viruses. Epidemic!
The attack that initially began on March 29 has been spreading fast and has victimized countless software already, as recorded by Websense. Nicknamed as the ‘Lizamoon Attack’, the attack first began with the users being directed to a site named similarly to the original. According to a BBC report, the very success of these attacks can be attributed to the fact that a lot of users kept being re-directed to the infected websites by a method called SQL injection tool, since many servers keep these websites functioning without filtering the text that comes in from these webpages. |
