Wordpress's Security Breached and Servers Hacked Into

Wordpress's parent company announced that the blog's security has been breached and its servers have been hacked into. Information put on Wordpress servers is at risk. According to Matt Mullenweg, founder of Automattic and Wordpress, said that it was a low-level (root) break in to some of their servers and the information on those servers could have been revealed. He says that they've been going through their data logs to determine information about the break-in and presume that their source code was copied. Their source code is Open Source but theirs' and their partners' codes have sensitive bits. He says that from what it appears, it's unlikely that any identifiable information was disclosed

Users who host a wordpress.org site on their own servers should be fine. Wordpress does advise users to tighten their security settings by choosing stronger passwords. The last time Wordpress had a high profile security breach was in 2009 which created 'hidden' administrator accounts.
