12 Chinese Dating Websites Come Under Fire

Twelve dating websites in China have been accused of being a cover for prostitution and a Chinese internet watchdog has ordered them to wind up their business. According to the Beijing Online News and Information, "The outrageous pimping content in some websites is very shocking. One of the websites, ostensibly a lonely-hearts dating service, contained a posting supposedly from a young woman describing herself as a 'professional pleasure giver'." Chinese news agency, Xinhua, reported that the 12 sites publish information such as service items, pricing and contact information. The online panel, which has representatives from government, academia and the public, has ordered a complete purge of such information from the sites by June 1. |
