Rediff India has launched a new multimedia social content sharing platform, 'iShare ' that allows users to share videos, music, pictures all on a single platform. The company says it aims to provide richer context for users to connect, and to bring together users with similar interests and form a vibrant online community. According to Rediff, iShare is expected to open up new opportunities for Indian youth to reach out and showcase their talent on the Internet, thanks to the ability of the platform, to deliver video and audio content. The platform will also aim to enable professional content owners to distribute their work and reach out to a new audience offering the similar experience as delivered on any traditional medium. Ajit Balakrishnan Chairman and CEO of Rediff.com said, "The increasing usage of mobile phones with digital cameras has changed the way users consume digital media. With broadband becoming affordable and social networking taking off in India, we believe that iShare will provide users a context to connect and enjoy a more comprehensive multimedia entertainment experience on the internet creating new opportunities for our partners to reach out to their audience." Representatives of Rediff say iShare comes with a very light and easy to use utility tool, which users can install on their PCs and upload multiple files even with low bandwidth without having to worry about the source of the file. For example users will be able to upload pictures and videos made on mobile phones, digicams, digital camcorder and music from mp3 player like ipods etc. Agarwal also said that Reddif's iShare goes beyond Youtube, because this platform allows users to share their music files as well as photographs, with other web users. Also, User Generated Content online is booming in India right now. Since Rediff has 40% reach within the country, this platform will be more popular in India, than YouTube. In a nutshell, iShare is a multimedia User Generated Content - based, file sharing website. Rediff.com has also announced a joint initiative with a Talent hunt-based reality show, called 'Voice of Rediff on Zee Sa re ga ma pa'. The initiative hopes to provide an opportunity to aspiring singers who want to showcase their voice for the musical show. iShare users will be able to upload their videos and audio files on iShare to enter the contest. |
