ShareReactor, undoubtedly one of the most popular P2P eDonkey/eMule (ed2k) link sharing sites till its shutdown in 2004, has sprung back to life. It seems to have the entire database of links as-is till its last day online, with some new additions made recently. However, the swinging sixties might not be back once again, as the man behind the original ShareReactor is not a part of this new venture anymore. As quoted on RespectP2P, Christian Riesen (aka Simon Moon) said, "I have sold the ShareReactor.com domain over a month ago already." He also goes on to declare that after selling the domain name, he has no more connections to ShareReactor whatsoever. Reactions to the revival of ShareReactor have been largely positive, but curious and alert users have been doing a background check on the new site. It seems that the main site is hosted in the Netherlands, but the forum site is hosted in the US, owned by a company called Hollywood Interactive, Inc. which has been on several security and privacy blocklists such as Bluetack and Peerguardian for a while now. As such, the users recommend staying away from the forums, though the site itself should be harmless, provided you continue using the Firefox browser and have adequate anti-virus protection. Recent news of the shutdown of the official eDonkey2000 website has not impacted the popularity of the file sharing network, which has been overshadowed in recent times with the sudden preference for BitTorrent that the community has developed. Will the old horse, albeit with a new rider, reinstate eDonkey2000 as the file sharing network of choice once again? We'll keep you posted. |
