Wii-tness the Destruction

Selling a million consoles after launch, the Wii seemed to have an ideal launch with almost no hang-ups. Sadly though, it seems that no console is destined for a perfect launch, and much like the PS3 (which suffered from pathetic launch titles and a lack of supply), the Wii is facing problems. The Wii remote straps supposedly break easily, which causes them to fly out of their excited yielders' hands. The grip on the remote isn't too good either, so after a few hours of play, your hands can get sweaty, making your grip on the controller even weaker. If the Wii remote manages to hit someone, it can cause them a world of pain, or it can break any household items it hits. The remote is attached to the strap by a string, which seems to be the root of all the problems, as it isn't too strong. Website Wiihaveaproblem.com has a lot of pictures posted by users, of the damage such accidents have caused. Here is what Nintendo's President, Satoru Iwata had to say: "We are investigating. Some people are getting a lot more excited than we'd expected. We need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment. Even while wearing the wrist strap, make sure you don't let go of the Wii Remote during game play and do not use excessive motion. For example, in Wii Sports bowling, the proper way to let go of the ball while bowling is to release the "B" button on the Wii Remote — DO NOT LET GO OF THE Wii REMOTE ITSELF. If you are having so much fun that you start perspiring, take a moment to dry your hands. If you use excessive motion and let go of the Wii Remote, the wrist strap may break and you could lose control of the Wii Remote. This could injure people nearby or cause damage to other objects." |
