Hack Enables Multitasking on WP7 Handsets

Since its emergence into the light of day, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system has been one that’s both brilliantly agile while still being quite useless in some cases. A work in progress, as I’ve said on a few occasions. Out of the various functions that the OS seems to lack, the one that really irks me has always been the multitasking, the one thing that all smartphone OS’ should be equipped to handle.

Better hacked than never

While we wait around twiddling our thumbs for Microsoft to launch periodic updates to enable these features, there are others hard at work, striving to make the WP7 OS a better one to use. Take the geniuses down at windowsphonehacker.com for instance; they’ve devised a hack that actually allows for quite a bit of multitasking. A function called Instant Resuming allows you to have multiple apps open in the background and for you to be able to switch between these without loosing a beat. 'You can pick up where you left off' is what they’re saying thanks to a workaround the dehydration function of the task host.

The site has warned users that this hack might have a few minor repercussions and is not for the Average Joe user but for someone who’s had their hands dirty already in the OS’ codes. So while we’re waiting on some sort of Microsoft official update, this one will tide us over. Check out the video.
