Official WP7 Mango update to roll out within two weeks

22 Sep, 2011, 3:42 pm IST | by Aaron Almeida | Windows Mobile

It was previously reported that the official Windows Phone 7.5 aka Mango update was all set to roll out, last week. However, contrary to that report, the official release of the Mango update is going to begin in the next two weeks. According to a post by Eric Hautala, General Manager, Customer Experience Engineering, Windows and their partner companies have been making progress in laying the groundwork for the Mango update. He states that, “we now expect to start rolling it out in the next week or two.”

Hautala says that, “This matched and paired firmware has been painstakingly tuned so your phone and apps work with all the new features of Windows Phone 7.5. Since your phone requires the proper firmware to function as designed, my advice is simple: steer clear of bootleg updates and homebrew tools.”  This is not an over-the-air update so one would have to update their PC softwares. For Windows this software would be Zune while the Mac OS would have Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac.

At the time of the update, the company will also refresh the ‘Where’s My Phone Update?’ table to show the status of the Mango rollout around the world. As soon as the update is out, be sure we will let you know about it.
