While Rovio Mobile has said it's taking its time with launching Angry Birds for Windows 7, other organizations have already started preparations for the new platform. Both Twitter and Kindle have announced applications for Windows Phone 7. Amazon has said the Kindle application is free while going by the way Twitter applications for other devices work, it's bound to be free as well. The Kindle application will be the first major ebook application for Windows Phone 7. It will follow Amazon's philosophy of "Buy One, Read Everywhere". Once you buy a book using the Windows 7 app, you can read it on any other device, be it an Android device, the iPad, or the Kindle itself. Ever since Twitter took over Tweetie last year, it's been launching applications for every platform there is. The first was of course, for the iPhone. It's followed up with applications for Android and for the Blackberry. And now Windows Phone 7. According to Twitter mobile product manager Leland Rechis the UI for this platform is called 'Metro'. The platform provides Pivots, which allow users to swipe to different sets of information within the application. Both these application providers are being proactive as the first of the Windows 7 devices isn't out yet. AT&T will start selling its first Windows 7 device on the 8th of November, while T-Mobile said it would start selling the HTC HD7 Windows Phone 7 mid-November. |
