In a rare occurrence Microsoft has issued a critical security fix for its Windows platform a good two weeks before its scheduled monthly patch cycle. It was forced to do so to fix a flaw that is being used by malicious hackers to attack Windows PCs. The vulnerability occurs in a windows system component called 'vgx.dll'. This system DLL is meant to handle VML or Vector Markup Language which is used in the design of high-grade vector graphics and for viewing the same in Internet Explorer. Microsoft deeming this flaw 'critical', which is its highest security rating has gone on to say: An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a specially crafted Web page or HTML e-mail that could potentially allow remote code execution if a user visited the Web page or viewed the message. For further details check out this advisory. To get the patch check the Windows Update site where it is now available. |
