Microsoft Suggests Workaround For Bug

In what seems to be becoming a weekly affair, yet another 'critical' flaw has been uncovered in Microsoft Windows that MS itself is aware of but has not yet fixed. It has through this advisory warned users about this bug and suggested several workarounds. The flaw affects the entire Windows family from 2000 onwards and can be exploited via the IE browser through a component called a WebViewFolderIcon.

"An attacker could host a specially crafted Web site that is designed to exploit this vulnerability through Internet Explorer and then persuade a user to view the Web site. This can also include Web sites that accept user-provided content or advertisements," Microsoft has mentioned in the advisory.

Noted Security company Secunia has put an advisory rating it as extremely critical which is its most severe warning. Microsoft expects to fix this bug in its October 10 patch rollout.
