| Microsoft has said that the new version of Internet Explorer - IE7 - will automatically download and install to Windows XP users at the end of this year. It will be rolled out as part of autoupdate which allows Microsoft to push out and auto-install important security patches and product upgrades to users' PCs. For those wondering if this is going to be a mandatory install you will be given the option to choose to install IE7 or not. Installing the final release of IE7 will uninstall previous betas of the browser, enabling users to roll back to version 6 via Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. For those IT administrators who are getting the cold shakes because IE7 might break their precious intranet applications, Microsoft has also announced a Blocker Toolkit so that larger companies can stop their Windows clients installing the new version. The Toolkit is available now from the Microsoft Download Center and has no expiration date. |
