We talked about Office XP, the old productivity suite being discontinued and no support being made available. Now, it’s the turn of the not-so-old Windows operating system, Vista. According to a report by Computerworld, Vista is going to accompany Office XP in losing support. There won’t be any support provided to Windows Vista users using Service Pack 1. Users will be forced to use newer service packs, which can be extended right up till 2017. Users should upgrade to updated service packs
While Office XP is more than a decade old, Vista is a more recent operating system, so the decision to discontinue support for SP1 might come as a surprise to some. Windows XP for example, which is an older operating system has extended support available right up till 2014, whereas Windows Vista will only have support till 2017. Windows Vista as an OS didn’t gain acceptance well, as say, Windows XP and even Windows 7. There was a lot of reluctance in using it and users felt that there weren’t too many improvements in comparison to Windows XP. System requirements were high, as well. Windows 7, which is used a lot today, is way more popular and feels like a much more optimized version of Windows Vista. |
