Autodesk Debuts Portal For Indian Students

Software design firm, Autodesk Inc. has announced the launch of its Global Student Engineering and Design Community portal in India. The portal aims at providing students in the field of architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, gaming & animation and industrial design, free access to Autodesk software and offer them an opportunity to communicate and collaborate with other students across the globe. Autodesk says it wants to educate the Indian student community, with latest 3D design technologies and prepare them for careers in engineering and design.

Autodesk's international Student Community portal, currently has students from more than 1100 universities across 54 countries who have access to a host of tutorials, invitation to forums, class discussions, social networking and a library of international projects and case studies. Moreover the site also provides access for students to search for employment and internship through thousands of job listings.

Rajiv Nair, Regional Director, Autodesk India said, "With India becoming the hub for design outsourcing and educational institutions playing a critical role in supporting the industry, it is important for graduates to be better prepared with cutting edge technology. Autodesk's recent initiative is aimed at acquainting Indian students with the wide possibilities that 3D design technologies offer and provide them a larger platform for marketing themselves to the global community."

India is amongst the 5 countries, along with US, UK, Australia and New Zealand, which are selected for the pilot launch of this portal. Students from 4 of India's premier institutes, i.e. IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, Sir JJ School of Architecture, Mumbai and School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi are involved in the initiative. More than 1000 Indian students have already registered themselves as members, during the pilot phase of the project.
