A website founded by US religious activists, Conservapedia.com, is currently in the spotlight for aiming to counter what they claim is 'liberal bias' on the popular open source web encyclopedia, Wikipedia. The founders of Conservapedia claim their site offers a 'much-needed alternative’ to Wikipedia, which they say is 'increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American'. Conservapedia, which was started last year, as a project for home schooled children is based on Wikipedia concept but without the 'liberal biases'. According to Conservapedia's creators, Wikipedia is anti-American because it doesn't use American spelling even though most English-speaking Wikipedia users are American. They also claim that Wikipedia is anti-Christian because some entries use CE (Common Era) rather than BC (Before Christ) to describe dates and it 'refuses to give enough credit to Christianity for the Renaissance'. They also insist that the entry on abortion and facts about the theory of evolution is contradictory to the beliefs of Christianity. |
