| Despite the US supreme court's decision last year, which attempted a crack down on all file sharing sites on the internet, illegal file sharing is alive and kicking. Although the law has provided the entertainment industry with legal aide, it hasnt been able to stall the piracy. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for instance has gone ballistic with lawsuits, having sued around 6,000 individuals for stealing copyrighted material on the net. Although the litigation did force some P2P networks like BearShare, WinMX and i2Hub to shut down, the number of people using file-sharing services has gone up. According to BigChampagne, illegal file sharing continues to grow by nearly 12 percent more, from the previous year. Of late though, the entertainment industry seems to have found a common ground with the digital world, what with prominent studios starting to sell content online and even embracing the BitTorrent guys. |
