Home to the country's silicon city, Karnataka has inked a deal with Hewlett-Packard (HP) India, to offer e-governance to its people. The deal will enable Internet users in Karnataka, to keep a tab a close watch on government procurement activities, such as publishing of tenders/RFP, bidding online, empanelment of suppliers/contractors, contract management, procurement of goods, works as well as services. The e-governance platform, which will allow various government departments to oversee the tendering process online, will run on a public-private-partnership (PPP) model in the state. HP will get its revenue based on the transactions conducted on the portal. At present, the pilot project will connect six departments of the state government but expects to cover all the government departments in a phased manner over the next two years. The project is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and transparency in public procurement. In turn, the state government will be able to maintain a clearer picture of its procurement activities on a real-time basis. Read more here. |
