Man Blames Failed Net Affair For Email to PM

The man arrested for emailing Indian Prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and President APJ Kalam, has confessed to threatening to kill the two VIPs. Akbar Raj, the accused, says he was spurned by a girl he met via the Internet, which drove him to threaten the dignitaries using an email ID with her name and personal details.

The Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer from which the email was sent, was tracked to a cyber café in Kochi, Kerela. Later, staff members of the cyber café identified the accused. He is now charged with section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which is criminal intimidation of the Prime Minister and President of India. He has also been charged with section 124 and 124 A, that is sedition. In case he is found guilty he could face a life sentence.

The Kerela government has decided to draft a new legislation to monitor cyber cafes across the state.
