Microsoft Discontinues Virtual PC

| Microsoft has finally announced that its Mac development division has stopped developing and shipping VirtualPC for Mac. Microsoft has gone on record to say said that it will not update VirtualPC to run natively on Intel-based Macs. The reason being given is that since Windows XP can be run without the need for emulation in Macs this product is no longer needed. WWDC has just come and gone. The workstation line, the new Power Macs are now far more powerful and built on the Woodcrest series of Intel processors which have been developed keeping virtualization in mind. VMware has announced that it will begin developing its virtualization suit for the Apple platform and would make it available free of charge. Steve Jobs whose immature jabs at Microsoft at WWDC also probably did not help the cause. Microsoft has an important financial year coming with the pending releases of its latest consumer OS Windows Vista and Office productivity suite M.S. Office 2007. Between the two of them they will form the bulk of Microsoft's revenue for the next few years and Microsoft can hardly be blamed for wanting to cut short their losses and concentrating on products that will actually make them money. |
