Microsoft: Windows 8 will be as big a change as Windows 95

| by Rossi Fernandes | Windows

Microsoft’s PR engine is firing on all pistons on the coming Windows 8 launch. The software giant has launched a blog designed to help communicate some information about the upcoming operating systems to its users. The post was made by Steven Sinofsky, President, Windows Division. The blog is called ‘Building Windows 8’ or as Microsoft likes to call it, B8. Windows 8, according to the blog, is going to be an equally huge jump from previous versions as Windows 95 was, back then. There’s clear emphasis on the fact that Windows 8 will run on the very same hardware that runs Windows 7. There’s also mention of the upcoming BUILD conference to be held in September. That event should be a good chance to get a glimpse of how Windows 8 is shaping up.

Windows 8 is being built from the ground up to support the ARM architecture, which means everything from tablets to mobile phones should be able to support it. Till now there was very little information or communication from Microsoft’s end on the upcoming platform. While the first blog post doesn’t give out more information than is already known about Windows 8, it is most likely going to be the meeting point for Microsoft’s developers as well as future customers and enthusiasts alike. If you’re more connected on Twitter, there’s also an account set up to communicate updates - @BuildWindows8
