Online Gamblers Face Draconian Bill in US

The US congress has approved a new bill on online gambling in the country, which prohibits banks, credit card companies and financial institutions from dealing with Iinternet gambling sites. This means online gamblers will no longer be able to pay off their debts via online payment systems.

The Bill, expected to be signed into a law by President George Bush, was pushed through the Congress by Republican senators. While supporters say that such a bill will prevent children from gambling online and curb gambling addiction in the country, the bill will adversely affect the plans of major casinos to venture into online gambling arena.

Online gambling is already illegal in the US but US gamblers found refuge in gaming companies in UK or other foreign countries. US gamblers spend as much as $8 billion a year online, which accounts for as much as 80% of the traffic at gambling websites.
