| It's just been a few weeks since a rather deluded RIAA announced to the world that the Pirate Bay had been sunk. Alas much to their chagrin and to the delight of the file sharing world not only did the Pirate Bay resurrect itself but ended up doubling its traffic. Since then a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. Much has been spoken and written about this episode. Looking to capitalize, is a fledgling political movement, calling itself 'The Pirate Party' of the United States, formed from the dust of last month's police raid on The Pirate Bay in Sweden. Just six days after the May 31 seizure of BitTorrent servers, the new organization's website, was up and running. Organizers claim the newly launched site drew over 100,000 hits in a little over a week. The group patterns itself after Piratpartiet, the Swedish political party associated with The Pirate Bay, and says it wants to reform intellectual property and privacy laws. For further details check out this interview with the The Pirate Party of the United States over at Wired. |
