Windows Live OneCare Arrives

31 May, 2006, 12:30 pm IST | by Priyanka Pradhan | Windows

Microsoft has introduced its all-in-one automatic and self-updating PC care service which includes firewall, antivirus and spyware protection software. Windows Live OneCare makes local backup for important files on a PC and promises to keep the machine tuned for better performance and reliability. The service also updates itself and runs an antivirus search automatically. Help and technical support is available through email, phone and chat for no additional charge. Also, ‘Geek Squad Agents' from Microsoft, are available 24x7 to install OneCare in homes or offices. The service is available at here and retail chains in the U.S for an annual subscription rate of $49.95. Microsoft announced that the service will be available internationally within a year. Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect at Microsoft said, "Windows Live OneCare delivers what millions of consumers have been asking for: one source for top-to-bottom maintenance, support and performance optimization tools plus increased protection that takes the worry out of PC care". This is Microsoft's first foray in the antivirus software market and its likely to face stiff competition from McAfee's new product, ‘Falcon' and Symantec's ‘Genesis' which have better features and will be out shortly.
