At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2007 in Las Vegas, Microsoft revealed their plans for launching an IPTV service for the Xbox 360. This Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) will allow users to watch movies and shows on their 360, and let them record them as they please. Additionally, people can even record their favorite shows in the background, while they play on their Xbox 360. According to Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division President Robbie Bach, you can expect to see this service in action by the holiday season in 2007. Microsoft wishes to make the Xbox 360 a complete home entertainment system, and here is what Bach had to say to that effect: "Our goal is to make entertainment more personal, more interactive and more social. IPTV on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live are powerful examples of ways we are bringing together the worlds of gaming, TV viewing and community to make it easy for people to access and discover their favorite content and share their personal experiences with the communities they are part of." Bach also mentioned that the Xbox 360 sales surpassed the projected 10 million mark, selling 10.4 million consoles before the end of this holiday season. I guess that the 360 is ahead of the Wii and the PS3 for now, but let's see if they can maintain their lead. |
