HD-DVD’s been dying as a format after Toshiba and other companies withdrew support for it; side-by-side, there’ve been some strong rumors suggesting that Microsoft’s ready to support Blu-ray. Microsoft’s Chief executive Steve Ballmer confirmed this recently; here’s what he had to say at the Mix08 conference: "We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on… Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on, and we'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense." Does this mean that the Xbox 360 will get Blu-ray drives? That’s almost certain, but there’s no official statement as of yet. There’s speculation of internal drives coming for the 360; we’ll let you know when we get a confirmation. |
