Antec Notebook Cooler Designer

Cooling pads might not be a necessity for most people, but those having heating issues on their laptops definitely swear by them. Not only do they help get rid of the unwanted extra heat, they also help increase the performance of your laptop whilst consuming a tiny bit of your battery life. Antec recently released their Notebook Cooler Designer for notebooks up to 15 inches. Here's our review for Antec's latest cooling pad.

Design and Features

At the first look, Antec’s cooling pad looks sleek and smart. The aesthetics are designed neatly and that just might be the reason it’s called the Cooler Designer. The design tapers down to the bottom and is extremely light to hold. The centre has vents for the fan inside and a heat dissipation vent on the top. The back consists of the company logo and a USB cable that snugly fits into the tiny pathways etched into the product. These pathways (top and on the sides) enable your cord to fit into the device, providing a smooth surface while placing it. In addition, there are four rubber pads that prevent slipping and also minimize the effect of vibration. 

The Antec Notebook Cooler Designer supports laptop up to 15 inches and features a 110mm fan that blows at 800 RPM. It comes in a single colour – Grey – and has a unique fan design unlike the blade structures we generally see in cooling pads. However, there is no stand to lower or alter the inclination of the cooling pad. Also, the fan rotates at a constant speed and there is no provision to slow down the speed from the maximum level.

Performance

Antec may have made an aesthetically pleasing design with their cooling pad, but as far as ergonomics are concerned, the cooling pad doesn’t quite make a mark. Firstly, we weren’t particularly impressed with the sloping design. While placing it on the lap, there was no slot-in option for the laptop and hence, stability was a problem. The angular placement also changes the entire viewing angle, which might just take some time to get adjusted to. 

As far as operation is concerned, the cooling pad is extremely silent. We used it on an overheating HP Probook without the AC power and it worked seamlessly. There was no visible extra battery consumption and the over heating was reduced, too.

Verdict

The Antec cooling pad is currently priced at Rs. 1,235. Performance wise, it definitely doesn’t disappoint. But for cooling pads the most important criteria is the fit. We’d recommend you try it at a local store once and see if the fit suits your taste, before buying it. If you have no qualms about the fit, then the cooling pad is definitely a must buy.
