Nokia 6300

The volume buttons are placed separately on the right-hand side. Not a bad thing at all. It’s extremely convenient to have the volume buttons placed separately, although in this case, it’s awfully inconvenient getting down to use them. The keys are hard to push, and a tad too small, which makes it even more difficult to use them. It takes a lot of jabbing, poking and a bit of luck to actually to get them to work. Why I stressed so much on the volume buttons is because they also double up as zoom in and zoom out for the camera. And if you plan to use the camera a lot; well just forget it!

One thing that I really appreciate in the 6300 is the fact that you don’t have to remove the battery to change or remove the memory card. The memory slot is situated comfortably on the right side of the phone. All you need to do is take the battery cover off.

Also there are blue lights on either side of the phone to indicate missed calls and message alerts. It adds to the entire sleek look of the handset, and it looks quite appealing too. At a resolution of 240x320 pixels (QVGA), 31x42 mm, the 6300 displays up to 16 mln colors (TFT).

At the bottom you will find the charging port that makes use of the new Nokia chargers, a 2.5earphone jack and a mini-USB port.

Features
The 6300 uses the reliable series-40 User Interface, and needless to say it functioned without any hang-ups. It’s extremely easy to use and navigating through the menu is kept quite simple too (very much to my taste).

The menu button will take you through almost everything that is there. Apart from a, it includes the usual assortment --- alarm clock, calendar, to-do list, notes, calculator, countdown timer and stopwatch.

Well, like all the series-40 phones, this one too includes the Push-to-talk facility. Since this facility has been introduced in India, users can benefit from this.

Media
If you are expecting an extravagant music player, with some out-of-the-world playback quality, this isn’t the phone for you. The music quality is honestly okay, and the fact that it isn’t loud at all, marred every desire I had to tune in. Music on this one gets overshadowed by the racket on the road. The loudspeaker, however, is quite loud. The player supports MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, H.263 and H.264.

It also has a video player, voice recorder and FM radio.

As mentioned earlier, the resolution is pretty good, which means you can store and view all your artwork in its glory.
