Samsung SGH-E250

Battery
Most Samsung phones last me three-four days with semi-moderate use, and the fact that this phone has a low resolution display and a low resolution camera would make you believe it’ll go upto five perhaps, but this puppy gives way just after two or two and a half days. It doesn’t make much sense really. Competing phones like the 6085 and the Z550i last a bit longer.

The other problem is that the screen of the E250 just stays lit throughout the recharging process, so if you’re using this phone at night, you might have to keep it face down. Or you can use it as a night lamp.

Conclusion
The cheap, stylish, slider E250 isn’t without it’s share of negatives: a low quality, VGA camera, low-res display, mediocre sound quality and average battery life. But even then, the phone is fast, the display is large, the call quality is fine, the keypad is amongst the best and it’s one of the best looking phones you can buy at Rs. 7,000. It has Bluetooth 2.0 stereo, USB, a microSD memory card slot that takes in upto 1GB, EDGE, FM radio tuner, a music/video player, security features like Mobile Tracker, emergency SOS alert, and privacy lock.

Is the E250 likely to change Samsung’s fate in the lower mid-range segment against it’s competitors? Well, it has been selling quite well since it was launched, so it’s safe to say that it will definitely up the graph a bit, but Samsung needs to release some new models with all-in-one features, specifically FM radio, cuz the junta thrives on that. They launched the C300, an ultra-low end basic phone that retails for just Rs. 3,000. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an FM radio, so it’s not going to disappear from the shelves too fast. The newly announced Ultra Editions (at 3GSM) all have pumped-up 3 megapixel cameras, but only the 10.9 (U600) slider has FM radio. If Samsung asks me for my opinion (like they’ve done in the past), the next phones I’ll ask them to launch are the 10.9 U600 and the 2-megapixel E740 slider.

Coming back to the E250, here’s what I feel about it and the competition: if you’re looking for a good quality camera along with the other features, consider the LG KG300 Dynamite. If you’re not so hot on LG, take a pick between the Nokia 6085 and the Sony Ericsson Z550i. But… if your budget is low and style requirement is high, the Samsung E250 is the phone you should buy. Poetic!
