The alarm function is handy. If your iPod is safely charging in the dock when it’s in sleep mode, it can be used as an alarm. The same goes for the radio. Of course the last thing you want is a noisy radio station in your ears so make sure you position your antenna and dock in the best place available. A Sleep mode is also on hand so you can adjust the settings for a time period that the device would auto shut down. Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. First off, the iSlim is fully useable with all iPods that includes the iTouch as well. Even though it doesn’t specify that the iPhone is compatible, it was! Like with the iCubic, I got a message saying that the accessory was not made to work with the iPhone except if it’s in Airplane mode. The funny thing is, the message stays onscreen for a few seconds and disappears. At the end of it the phone worked just fine as well. Audio quality was just ok. There’s no way that the iSlim was built to go up to its full volume capacity. I tried that via the radio (when there was clear reception), via the Line In keeping the volume of the player at an average level and of course via the iPod Touch with the EQ off. Clarity was evident only up to half volume. Any increase in volume after that and distortion level was quite evident. If your room has good acoustics you could find a good placement for the device but don’t count on the fact that volume level goes up to a count of 40, you’ll just jar the speakers. The 5 EQ presets - Flat, Classic, Rock, Pop and Jazz make a considerable amount of difference with the output of the audio. The Bottom Line To sum it up I didn’t quite like the audio quality that the iSlim offers. I particularly didn’t like the fact that the volume goes that high and I couldn’t use it. With a price tag of Rs. 4,200 (MOP), which seems quite reasonable for an iPod dock, you don’t get your money’s worth. While the radio is good and so is the design, the audio quality unfortunately, is not. The iCubic would be a better choice in its stead. |
