Halo 3 Multiplayer

Running up to an enemy and smacking him in the face with the butt of your gun while reloading: PRICELESS!

As you can see by our weak attempt at humor, we are madly in love with love Halo 3’s multiplayer and we’ve practically lived the past two weeks on Xbox Live fragging/meeling people left, right and centre.

I could go on and on how fast-paced, frantic and addictive the action is but I won't; instead I’d rather run you through all the different (and new) modes available in Halo 3 and give you valid reasons why your copy of Halo 3 may end up hogging your Xbox 360 for a while.

Players who’ve already played the Halo 2 multiplayer will be at ease with most of the modes available here but in case this is your first Halo romp, here’s a list of the different modes you can expect:

Co-operative: I’m of the opinion that every shooter out there should have a co-op mode, so you can imagine my joy when I tackled Halo 3’s Campaign in co-op. Bungie has gone the extra mile to provide us with a four player co-op mode as opposed to the two player co-op in Halo 2.

Not only can you play the game with three of your friends on Xbox Live but you can even fire up a game of co-op in split screen on the same console (provided you have a bigass TV).

Slayer: A deathmatch where it’s every man for himself.

Team Slayer: Like Slayer… only with teammates.

Infection: One player starts off as a zombie armed only with a sword, and throughout the round he must try and convert others into zombies as well, while they fight for their survival.

Oddball: Make sure you hold on to the ball (in the form of a skull) for as long as possible.

King of the Hill: Control a particular point (that keeps moving through the map) for a given period of time to rack up the highest score.

VIP: Ensure the safety of your VIP while trying to take out the opposition.

Assault: Place a bomb in the enemy base and make sure they don’t disarm it before it detonates.

Juggernaut: You become a bit more powerful than everyone in the game and your aim is to stay alive for as long as possible. Any player that kills you becomes the Juggernaut until he’s killed.

Capture the Flag: Ensure the safety of your team’s flag while trying to capture the enemy's.
