Performance I remember thrashing the RP processing technology that the A610 used, in my review. It just made the pictures very dull. With the A800, however, I like the colors a lot. What I like the most to begin with is that it doesn’t over-saturate the colors.
The RP processing does the job well. It keeps the detailing quite accurate even in darker areas of the image. Most cameras screw up here by displaying purple fringes. This one doesn’t.
Talking about colors, the dark colors are very well accentuated and deep. And if you look closely, there is very little digital noise. Even in the night shots, the camera performance is quite optimal. Again, it’s pretty disappointing to not have any color balance options.
When blown, all the pictures lose out on the sharpness, and appear to be very grainy. Although, for a normal 6x4 print job, the pictures are quite sharp. Large printing is a big no no!!
Like all the A-series cameras, this one to makes use of two AA sized batteries. It is advisable that you use alkaline-based ones. I got exactly 39 pictures at one go, with a lot of LCD usage, and very little flash. With flash it conks off even sooner. I’m a big proponent of Li-ion batteries, one of the biggest advantages you will have with the A800 is that you can buy AA batteries anywhere. It has an internal memory of 10MB, and supports up to 2GB SD/xD-Picture Card.
