I am not a big fan of Kodak point-and-shoots, but let's check out the actual performance before we jump to any conclusions. If you are going to use the smart capture option, you might at least check which mode it goes to while clicking. You don’t want a flower mode when you are shooting faces. One good thing about the camera is that it has one of the best face detection technologies in the business. Once locked, it will chase the face even while in motion. The camera makes use of the auto-focus light to help focus in the dark. Nothing abnormal here, except that the range of this light impressed me. I've seen some really good ones, but none have performed like the V1073. In a pitch-dark room, the camera not only managed to get decent detailing, but also managed to focus on anything I wanted, courtesy the auto-focus light. For web usage, this one works wonders, if not fully blown. The detailing level, true to Kodak tradition, is low. Sharpness is much better due to the optical stabilization, but greens and reds suffer. None of the pictures clicked had purple fringing, something I always found in Kodak cameras. What still needs to be improved is the vibrancy of the picture. Colors don’t stand out like they should. If you are shooting videos in HD, the first thing you have to check for is framing issues. Thanks to the optical image stabilization used in the V1073, you won’t have to deal with that. The video runs smoothly without any glitches. |
