Mitashi TFD-7305 Portable DVD Player

Performance
The first thing that strikes you when you start watching a movie on the TFD-7305 is the mediocre screen quality. The display matrix is easily visible and you can notice a bit of interlacing during fast motion, which makes the picture look aliased with jagged edges, which in turn makes the colors appear a bit dull.

Contrast level was another matter for concern. The black levels were quite bad, with even the darkest parts of the image looking muddy and washed out taking away all the depth from the image.

On the other hand, the screen is very visible in adequate sunlight, after changing the display setup to a Bright preset. Of course if you keep the player under bright direct sunlight, the picture visibility will drastically go down.

The TFD-7305 comes with shock protection so your movie session won't be interrupted on a bumpy ride or any other kind of regular motion. This feature makes it a great option as an in-car entertainment unit, especially with the harness and the remote.

System menu was very basic but functional enough. The only thing missing, and the thing that bothered me the most was the lack of aspect ratio settings for TV output. By default the player stretches the picture to fit the screen of the television unit, so if you happen to have a standard non-wide TV set, you're going to have to watch your widescreen movies vertically stretched. For me this is the biggest negative point in the TFD-7305 DVD player.

Another thing is that the unit tends to dissipate heat after a few minutes of playback, which made it a bad option for keeping on your lap or holding the player during playback. However, the rise in temperature never caused any problems even during long hours of continuous use, so i assume it should not be a matter for concern.

Conclusion
Even with its average image quality, lack of component out and the heating up issue, the Mitashi TFD-7305 is a pretty decent portable DVD player. At its street price of Rs. 8,990 it's a good buy for someone looking for a cheap in-car/portable entertainment option. On the other hand the quality is exactly what you pay for—Take that as you want to.
