Portable DVD players are really in vogue, or so it would seem if you consider how many new models are being released. Only recently I reviewed the Zeon, and now we have the WorldTech WT-510. The pressing need for a portable DVD player beats me though, unless you're rich enough to buy one for the heck of it, and have a real need to watch your DVD collection while traveling. After all, for your movie needs there are PMPs, unless you are into buying/renting DVDs while on the move. In any case, none of the portable DVD players are light enough to conveniently carry around. The WT-510 weighs around 970g, which is a tad heavy, but still lighter than most of the competition. It’s quite compact too, but only by virtue of comparison with competing brands. At 197 x 166 x 40 mm, it just manages to stay short of being cumbersome.
As with a laptop, the base of the player gets hot halfway through a movie, especially when it's charging. So unless you are vacationing in the chilly mountains, where the player will serve to warm you up, I suggest you use a pillow to prop it up.
The volume dial, earphone jack, optical audio and video out, charging slot and AV in/out slider can be found on the right side of the player. The rechargeable battery is at the bottom, which explains the heat. Buttons for play/pause and fast forward/rewind are on the inside below the five-way navigation keys. Other buttons like menu, setup etc are on the top. Of course, the player comes with a remote that has a good IR range, so you need not bother with these. |
