Mediastations, PVRs, wireless media and files from the internet need to be stored securely until we need it again. Verbatim specializes in storage media all the way from the blank CD to the product we have with us here - a 500 GB media station which can store and play music, HD videos and photos on your flatscreen directly. It is called the Verbatim Media Station Pro.

Design and Features
Essentially a hard disk by form, this player looks like any other external HD with a black hard plastic casing and a smooth finish with a slight luster. The sides are curved, one in a convex way while the other concave, thus offering a tinge of design versatility. The front panel stands out, as it's a high gloss plastic that is fixed on, with silver buttons and LEDs.  It comes with an included stand, which can be fixed to the concave end, and thus the media station can stand up vertically.

The back panel has connections, which are quite a few in number, in adherence to the many features and roles this unit can take on. First things first. There is the power input, which accepts the included power adapter wire. Then we have one HDMI out, and the good part is that an HDMI wire is also included. In fact every possible wire you might need is there, namely HDMI, composite video/stereo audio, component video cable USB cable and remote control.

There is a small USB port for when the device is to be used as a regular storage disk, for transfers. Then there are 2 regular USB slots using the unit as a player/USB host. Finally there is a wireless LAN antennae connection, and a regular Ethernet LAN port.

It plays a host of formats namely MPEG1, 2 and 4, HD-MPEG2, WMV-9 and also ISO, IFO, VOB, TS, MP3, OGG files etc. It does not play Matroska files, Flac, Monkey audio or any of those type of lossless codecs.
