Genius BT-03i Headset

06 Nov, 2008, 8:17 pm IST | by Shayne Rana | Headphones Headphones

The biggest issue I had with the BT-03i was the sound quality when taking calls. Most of the time, the caller kept requesting that I repeat myself, due to the immense distortion or low volume. The funny thing is while in the same place I made and answered 6-7 calls and got a variety of results. Some callers had very little problem with the voice clarity while others found it quite annoying. In such a scenario you’d have to switch off the headset, remove it and continue via the handset. Quite tedious.

On the plus side, if you can call it that, I had absolutely no problems with incoming sound quality. If anything the hidden microphone is a little too well-hidden. This may make you look a little crazy, as an onlooker wouldn't know if you’re singing along to music you’re listening to, or simply talking to yourself.

What is impressive is the battery life and range. In a room I was able to hear loud audio up to a distance of 9-10 meters with no obstacles. At home it was a little different – the signals were not able to penetrate the walls too well. The little they managed was quite adequate though. The battery lasted up to 10 hours with nonstop audio, which is I found quite impressive.

The Bottomline
Apart from the voice clarity issue while calling and the slightly uncomfortable design, everything else about the BT-03i seems to be quite good. The device costs Rs 4500, and I'd recommend it if you have the money and need a Bluetooth headset for music and not calls. It goes very well with A2DP-enabled handsets as well as audio and video players. Pity about the calls.
