Performance For this review we used our usual Sheffield lab test CD, and a few test tones of my own. Music-wise, we used a little bit of everything ranging from Miles Davis Birdland 1951 to Jamiroquai to trance MP3s. I even chatted with friends on Skype, both abroad and in my office bay. The headphones do not have as deep a bass as the site claims. Not that it’s bad, it just rolls off sharply at 40 Hz. The mids are the most prominent, but not jarring. It does have a clear, crisp sound, which is quite expected, as headsets need a response like that to emphasize voice. The bass and highs are very much in control and I like the neutrality there. I used it with my PC for regular music listening and chatting. The volume is not the loudest as expected from the specs, though at max levels on Foobar/winamp, we got a powerful enough sound, with the added advantage of the isolation this unit provides. Outside sounds are actually negated to a large extent due to the physically large and engulfing design of the cans. The mic too is impressive, and quite sensitive. Of course it picks mainly mids frequencies, but that is what we want. |
