LG HT924SF Home Theater in a box

30 Sep, 2009, 4:25 pm IST | by Siddharth Bhatia | Home Theatre Systems Home Theatre Systems

A DVD player package with Home theater speakers  bundled, that too in a reasonable budget. This makes for the perfect gift to a sibling or elder this festive season, and a brand like LG really fuels this market niche with its array of Home theater models. We have their mid end model called the HT924F DVD Receiver system, a full set complete with DVD player, Subwoofer and 5 speakers for surround sound.

Design and Features
This one is a compact model, with a uniform Gloss black finish theme running all through the fascia of all components. The speakers have a metallic silver stand, also a similar metallic rim around their frontal positioned Driver. The driver is safely hidden behind a permanent black grille. The shape of the speakers is slightly globular, with curved edges and side surfaces. The subwoofer is a bit more conventional, with straight edge rectangular cabinet made of regular MDF, finished in matte black. The front panel though is covered in Gloss black again, with a huge black grille to conceal the 5.5-inch driver. Thus the Sub is front firing model, also with a neat looking bass reflex port just below the driver. The size of the mid woofers on the speakers is about 3-inches in diameter.

Color coded wires are provided, all the 6 speakers plug into the back of the DVD receiver. This receiver is a it stouter than your regular slim DVD player, this has a raised façade, with a protruding volume knob on the right extremity. The tray is on the opposite side, with simple round push button positioned next to the knob. Below the tray, a small flap opens out to expose the USB slot and 2 mic TRS ( 1/4-inch) inputs  for  Karaoke. Yes, Karaoke is one the many functions this box has to offer. Besides we have playback of JPEG, MP3 and DivX video (standard definition) right off a USB stick. Another nifty feature available is Direct to USB recording (only audio), meaning one can rip off CD and FM straight to a USB drive.

It decodes Dolby Digital, Pro Logic 2 and also DTS. The connections available are one HDMI out, a component video, one composite video, and an Optical Digital Audio out. FM antennae input is placed next to the optical out. The total power output of this system is 1200 Watts RMS. The literature mentions a feature called “Bass boost” (grin), thus we will have to see how much we can boost the bass.
