Laptops

HP Pavilion laptops are very popular amongst multimedia and home users, be it entry-level, mainstream or high-end, there’s something for everyone. But again, the truth is that they are slightly more expensive than most ‘non-traditional’ laptop makers. However, this time around, perhaps owing to the stiff competition, HP has something that offers very good value for money, while maintaining HP’s style factor, their Pavilion DV-6 series. Today we have with us a high-end laptop, the DV6-3050TX, in the price of a mainstream laptop, check it out!

Design
A laptop with a metallic exterior usually looks pretty slick and solid at the same time, and this trend seems to have taken off well especially in desktop replacements. HP has taken this a step further with its DV6 3050TX. Usually, the metallic sheets on laptops have a rather plain brushed aluminum finish or a glossy surface. This one has a brushed matte finish, but what’s special is the lazer etching. Starting on the metallic sheet on the lid, the etching is quite prominent even on the wrist rest, which adds to the aesthetics. So in terms of looks, this one gets five on five.

Even quality-wise, there’s nothing to complain about, in fact, thanks to the use of metal, and the superb finishing, the DV6 looks and feels stunningly robust. The only areas where plastic is used, is the screen frame and the base of the unit, and of course the touchpad. Speaking of which, the large touch pad has a matte finish with buttons underneath the plastic sheet, so there are no physical buttons, which sometimes can be a bane, because even the buttons area is touch-sensitive.

As far as the ergonomics is concerned, the keyboard is full-sized with well-spaced keys and you’ll even find a vertical column of hotkeys for Windows Live Mail, calculator, printer, browser, and to access the HP quick launch bar. There aren’t any physical hot keys or shortcuts, but it’s the simplicity that enhances the aesthetics, and besides, the function keys double up as media player buttons and volume controls, so that’s sorted.
