Toshiba Regza 37A3000

First-timers are always welcome in our labs, their inherent bashfulness notwithstanding. The Toshiba Regza LCD TV was one such virgin who landed up recently, to an enthusiastic welcome. These TVs are very popular and I’m sure most of you have heard about them in online global marketplaces. They aren't so common in India though.

Of course you can bet that didn't deter us from wangling a piece. And we got one from Toshiba's newest range! Called the 37A3000, this is a sober 37-inch LCD screen. Since the brand isn't a regular, this won’t be just another TV review. I intend to do a detailed scrutiny; so let’s see if this can deliver the goods...

Design and Features
The TV has a sober look compared to its counterparts, with a dense black bezel and frame bearing the Toshiba logo at the bottom centre and the Regza label on the top left. A silver strip adorns the sides, and is visible in profile. The stand is unique, due to the dual curved prongs that resemble the feet of a huge bird of prey.

Getting back to the task at hand, I must point out that setting up the TV takes a while. This model comes with the stand separate and a toolkit consisting of screws and Allen keys, so get ready to relive your engineering college days. Once set up, however, the screen can swivel about the vertical axis for about 15 degrees to either side.

Connections are stacked in a slightly different way, with the obvious set on the side for AV composite in, and a small matrix exposed at the back panel. The build of the TV and the components is well up to the mark; in fact it is quite rigid and heavy.

Besides one HDMI 1.3 input, there's also the regular bunch of composite ins, S-video and PC-VGA inputs.

The screen’s native resolution is a regular 1366 x 768, with a diagonal dimension of 37 inches and 10-bit processing for dynamic range.
