Moser Baer LCD TV

16 Oct, 2008, 6:19 pm IST | by Siddharth Bhatia | LCD LCD

LCD TVs are a regular at Tech2.0, but this one’s a bit different from the usual. It’s a Moser Baer, model MBI LTH 32IA, and it's spanking new. It’s got a crazy Isaac Asimov-inspired ad, with a robot watching the TV. Does this imply this TV is meant for the future, or maybe that it's the future of LCD TVs? Well, let's check if it lives up to such claims.

Design and Features
The bezel is stouter than others, and makes the TV look a little on the heavy side. The weight is normal though, and so is the regular glossy black finish that seems to be the norm these days. The bottom panel has a visible speaker grille, which is not really in keeping with these days of seamless surfaces and flush-mounted buttons. The round black buttons don't look bad at all; they're lined up under a larger power-on button. All this is centrally located on the bottom panel.

The back panel has the connections centrally located, in a small window containing 2 HDMIs, one component, PC-in and a digital audio-out – that too an optical out. This is a nice option for the future, once we start getting 5.1 sound in our broadcasts (when will that happen?) There is also a headphone out on the side panel.

The 32-inch panel is HD-ready, with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Not too much is known about detailed specs such as contrast ratio and response time. We checked the Moser Baer site and the manual, but drew a blank. Anyway, we can check these in the performance section, at least subjectively. We’ve asked the company for details, so watch this space for an update.
