Videocon VDL32HBG LCD TV

26 May, 2009, 11:00 am IST | by Siddharth Bhatia | LCD LCD

Videocon is India’s very own brand, a group that has been standing up to the far eastern competition for years. Today we have an LCD TV by them, called VDL32HBG, marketed under the series name 'Haute'. So let’s see if this TV is truly a designer unique model or plain old ordinary.

Design and features
The bezel of the HDTV is quite oddly shaped, as in something we have not witnessed before. The bottom panel has a highly rounded edge, giving a U-shaped contour. The whole TV has no sharp edges, rather globular corners and thick rounded edges. The bottom edges are where the speaker grille is located and it is not concealed like most other TVs these days. Speaker grilles are not the most beautiful thing especially for some who care about slick looks. The finish however is a decent glossy black, all the way down uniformly to the huge elliptical stand. The Haute branding is printed on the top left corner above the screen.

Connection-wise we have nothing at the back, rather all the i/o is squadroned at the right side panel. These include 2 HDMIs, one S-video, one component, and 3 composite ins, one of them located separately at the back, like a forgotten loner. __STARTQUOTE__The colors in fact are the best part of the image, with a nice deep level of saturation. __ENDQUOTE__ Feature wise this TV is packed: we have DCDi, a process that helps in de-interlacing broadcast channel and reducing jaggies and blurry edges, thus helping in sports viewing. Then there is the regular suite of processing like MPEG Noise reduction, flesh tone enhancement etc.

Rated specification includes a contrast ratio of 30,000:1, 450 cd/m2 brightness on a 32 inch panel. The native resolution of this panel is 1366 x 768. Response time is 6.5 ms with a viewing angle is 178/178 degrees complete. The speakers give an output of 20 watts total.
