Vu LC-40V69PIR Intelligent LCD TV

23 Jul, 2009, 9:00 am IST | by Siddharth Bhatia | LCD LCD

This is a new kind of technology, by a considerably new brand, and not one of the regular biggies. We are talking about VU, a closer to home brand that is slowly gaining popularity, and offers value for money in LCD TVs and LCD displays. All this can only excite us, especially when the new tech is a collaboration of 2 age old ones, like a desktop PC and a TV. This is what VU’s intelligent TV is, a full-fledged LCD TV with a Motherboard and all the connectivity you will find in a typical desktop PC. We have a 40-inch model, and it’s called the VU LC-40V69PIR Intelligent TV.

Design and features
The form factor of this TV is the most important; as the bezel incorporates a motherboard and all its connectors are exposed on the side. The first thing that impressed me is the power supply used is sufficient for both the TV and Mobo, as only one power cable is required.  The TV is not bulky, and overall above average to decent looking with a glossy bezel, and a thick transparent strip adorning the bottom panel. There is a slim LED right at the center of this strip, that lights up Blue when in standby mode. This is a nice addition; it gives extra sheen to the aesthetics of the TV.

The connectors available are plenty, as they span from the requirements of TV to PC. Thus we have 3 HDMIs, 1 S-video, 1 D-sub 15 pin for VGA, 2 USB ports, RF input for cable, 2 RCA composite inputs and 1 component video in. Besides these there is an Ethernet port for internet connections. There is a conspicuous red push button on the i/o slot, right at the top, to turn the PC on. To use the PC one has to use the VGA connection, which actually already has a wire attached to it, coming from the mother board.

The TV comes with a Vu branded keyboard, with a trackball on the top left which acts as the mouse. This is wireless and it works with a USB dongle that needs to be attached at the side panel slots. The keyboard has good tactile feel, and is not flimsy or anything.
The TV’s native contrast is 8,000:1 and Dynamic is 50,000:1. The Brightness is 500 cd/m² and Viewing Angle (Horizontal / Vertical) is 178°/178°. The Response Time (Grey to Grey) is 5 ms. Most importantly the native resolution is 1920×1080.
For some reason VU has not given too much info about the Motherboard, but for now there is an Atom 1.6 GHz processor, plus we have 1 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD that come with the package, though all these can be upgraded.
